When a user registers for the site, I don't want their admin panel to display the WordPress icon, and all the other options such as changing colour schemes etc.
Is there a way to provide a basic 'user panel'. That just allows them to see their ads and edit them, and change some basic information about themselves?

Thanks for your question.
If it is UNchecked, it will show each listing which can then be clicked on to edit. If it is checked, as I suspect it is, users will see the WordPress backend.
I'd recommend unchecking that and creating a separate page for logging in to access ads.
I created a separate page on my test site using the [ AWPCPUSERLISTINGS menu=false limit=0 ] (minus the spaces before and after the brackets) shortcode, which shows the user's ads on the page once they have logged in. I'd recommend trying it on a test page on your site.
All of our supported shortcodes are listed here: http://awpcp.com/forum/faq/valid-awpcp-shortcodes-3-x/
