I have been running your software for years and I have the premium version installed for featured ads. I have never had any issues. I have not made any site changes for months

I have received a message that a user is trying to place a listing but gets error messages. I have tried to place a listing myself and get the following error messages:

‘We found errors in the details you submitted. A detailed error message is shown in front or below each invalid field. Please fix the errors and submit the form again.’

and

‘There was an unexpected error trying to save your Ad details. Please try again or contact an administrator.’

There are no errors shown in any of the fields. So there is nothing to fix.

The listing page is at http://www.venturaorlando.com/…..e-listing/

I have updated the plugin just now, and deactivated the re-capture, but the same error is still there. The site will not accept free or paid listings – none at all.

I can send you my licence key if required

Thanks

Chris

Hi wofhwcvfw,

Sorry that you ran into issues with this!

We are happy to help troubleshoot this issue with you. Can you tell me a bit more?
– What version of WP are you running here?
– What exact version of AWPCP?  (number, please)
– What exact version of any other AWPCP Modules? (number, please)
– Can you please send a link to the affected ad?
– Can you please provide screenshots of the error you are seeing?

We should also do a check for theme and plugin conflicts. Please conduct the test and let me know the results. Here is an article about how to test for theme and plugin conflicts with AWPCP, which may help pinpoint the issue: http://awpcp.com/forum/faq/how…..conflicts/

That will help us troubleshoot the issue a little faster. Please send your results, along with a link to this forum thread, here: https://awpcp.com/contact/

I have just sent the information requested to the email provided. The screenshot of the error is attached here.

I have been asked to send the below details as a result of a question on the forum.

WP Version is WordPress 4.9.8
AWPCP is Version 3.8.5
Featured Ads Version 3.6.1

Ad Listing begins at http://www.venturaorlando.com/…..e-listing/

on clicking the next link to go to the next section, there are errors shown of:
We found errors in the details you submitted. A detailed error message is shown in front or below each invalid field. Please fix the errors and submit the form again.

and

There was an unexpected error trying to save your Ad details. Please try again or contact an administrator.

On checking the submission boxes no errors are shown.

I have tried to place an ad in Chrome and Safari and the error appears.

I am able to place an ad using explorer.

I have tried disabling the Captcha, but that makes no difference at all.

The forum link is https://awpcp.com/forum/support-questions/unable-to-place-any-listing/#spEditFormAnchor

I have not updated, or changed anything on the site for months. I have however, just updated the AWPCP plugin to see if that made any difference.

Thanks
Chris

I managed to sort this issue out a couple of weeks ago, and I found that when I entered the url directly, I was able to place listings. I changed the links on my site and all was well.

However, I have received messages from customers over the last couple of days that they cannot place any listings. I have checked and they get the same error messages and listings are not placed.

Even I as admin cannot place any listings through the back end, and am am having to copy listings in the database, and change the details manually to enter new listings for customers.

Nothing has changed. The place ad listing is at http://www.venturaorlando.com/…..e-listing/

Whilst trying to rectify this issue, I have looked at another site I have and the same error message appears there to. That site is at http://www.grantown-motormania…..ce-listing

I have classifieds enabled at http://www.visitgrantown.co.uk…..e-listing/ and that works just as it should.

All 3 sites are running

  • AWPCP version: 3.8.5.
  • The most recent Wordpress version
  • All are hosted at one.com
  • Each has a different theme
  • Each have different plug ins, but some have common plug ins

I know there does not seem to be anyone else with the issue, so it must be something local to me, but I have no idea now where to go with this.

Can you offer any advice please?

Thanks very much

UPDATE. I have deleted the awpcp plugin, and the database tables. Re-installed the plugin and it all works as it should.

I then deleted the database tables, and inserted the original tables that I saved from the non-working version. Now it does not work again, and I get the same error messages.

I assume there is something in a database table somewhere that is causing an issue.

Any ideas what, or where that could be please?

Think I am getting nearer!!

I have looked at the DB Download that works, and the one that does not. There are some differences:

THIS DOES NOT ALLOW NEW LISTINGS TO BE MADE

— Table structure for table `wp_awpcp_admeta`

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `wp_awpcp_admeta` (
`meta_id` bigint(10) unsigned NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
`awpcp_ad_id` bigint(10) unsigned NOT NULL,
`meta_key` varchar(255) DEFAULT NULL,
`meta_value` longtext,
PRIMARY KEY (`meta_id`)
) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 AUTO_INCREMENT=1 ;

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `wp_awpcp_admeta` (

`meta_key` varchar(255) COLLATE utf8mb4_unicode_ci DEFAULT NULL,
`meta_value` longtext COLLATE utf8mb4_unicode_ci,
PRIMARY KEY (`meta_id`)
) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8mb4 COLLATE=utf8mb4_unicode_ci AUTO_INCREMENT=3 ;

The working version is creating COLLATE utf8mb4_unicode_ci in a number of the DB fields.

Is this a setting I have in Wordpress that is doing this, or is it something in the plugin I need to change please?

Hi wofhwcvfw,

Thanks for your patience here.

I just heard back from the developer regarding the issue you reported, and here is what he said:

Back when AWPCP 3.6.4 was released we changed AWPCP to use

utf8mb4

 charset and corresponding collate whenever the database supports it.

utf8mb4

 is what WordPress tries to use since 4.2.

That version of the plugin included an upgrade routine that used a core function to try to upgrade every

awpcp_

 table to use

utf8mb4

 instead of

utf8

.

I can’t tell exactly why the upgrade routine couldn’t upgrade the tables on those websites. Perhaps MySQL didn’t have support for

utf8mb4

 at the time the routine was executed (it obviously has support now because a fresh installation is using it).

The upgrade routine available in the plugin’s installer is shown below, plus a line of code to make that function execute on

init

:

   function try_to_convert_tables_to_utf8mb4( $oldversion ) {
        global $wpdb;

        if ( $wpdb->charset !== 'utf8mb4' ) {
            return;
        }

        if ( ! function_exists( 'maybe_convert_table_to_utf8mb4' ) ) {
            return;
        }

        $plugin_tables = $wpdb->get_col( "SHOW TABLES LIKE '%awpcp_%'" );

        foreach ( $plugin_tables as $table_name ) {
            maybe_convert_table_to_utf8mb4( $table_name );
        }
    }

    add_action( 'init', 'try_to_convert_tables_to_utf8mb4' );

The customer could create a backup of the affected sites and then execute the routine above to see if that converts the tables to use the charset and collate values that work.

If that doesn’t work and the customer want’s to give us access, I can try to debug that upgrade routine to find out what’s the problem.

Please let me know what you decide. If you want us to investigate, can we please get WP admin and FTP credentials to your site to look into this further?

We need the following information to debug the issue:
– A link to this forum thread
– WP admin username
– WP admin password
– WP login URL
– FTP username
– FTP password
– FTP servername/IP address
