Hello,

I am using the Region mod. I have a clickable US map that my client wants to use on the home page – and it does look nice – so I need to figure out what the actual URL is to each state so I can hook that up, ie. “USA → Alabama” that will then have a list of cities to click on.

Now I realize that I can simply make pages of my own that lead finally to the listings per city (I believe) and those will show up, but I was REALLY hoping I could use this mod to aid in a set up like that so I’m not spending days coding pages of links with states and cities on them.

I tried using /?region_id=206 for Alabama but that doesn’t work. It only seems to work by using the final category (ie General)

I can do a search and get this for Alabama:
/search-ads/?awpcp-action=dosearch&keywordphrase=&searchcategory=&searchname=&searchpricemin=&searchpricemax=&regions%5B0%5D%5Bcountry%5D=USA&regions%5B0%5D%5Bstate%5D=Alabama&regions%5B0%5D%5Bcity%5D=\

But then I get a “Return to Search” link at the top of the page that might be confusing. I am sure if I hack the code to remove it, it won’t be there when the actual search feature IS used.

Any ideas?

Hi Jenni,

Here is our customization guide which describes the general layout of AWPCP as well as the contents of most of the files and folders inside https://awpcp.com/documentation/customization-guide/

This should help you with what you are trying to achieve.

Well, not being a programmer I cannot find what I’m looking for in here.  I just need the link to the states that I put into the region module. Is there no way you can post which one of those blocks of code will do that for me?

Hi Jenni,

I’m sorry that answer wasn’t helpful in resolving this issue. Since what you are trying to do isn’t clearly supported in our documentation, I am running this by the developer and will get back to you when I hear back. Thanks for your patience!

Hi Jenni,

Thanks for your patience here.

I just heard back from the developer regarding the issue you reported, and here is what he said:

We don’t really support the exact scenario the customer requires. In AWPCP you can define the active region, causing the plugin to show only listings from those regions, but the active region is stored until you manually clear it or you leave the website. That means that if you set USA -> Alabama as the active region, going back to the home page will still show listings from that region only, until choose another region or no region at all.

The following URL can be used to set the active region. When the link is clicked, the plugin changes the active region and redirects the user back to the page where she or he clicked the link:

http://[main-plugin-page-url]/<wbr />setregion/206/Alabama/

[main-plugin-page-url]

is the URL to the main plugin’s page. Both the Region ID (206) and the Region name (Alabama) are required.

Links for other regions can be obtained copying them from the Sidelist.

The sidelist can be enabled from Classifieds > Settings > General and scrolling to Region Control Settings. Once enabled, you can add the desired regions to the sidelist clicking the plus sign in front of each region in the Manage Regions admin page. The regions links should appear to the right side of the categories list in the plugin’s main page.

The sidelist is also the best alternative we can offer right now to the clickable map + pages of cities. Users can expand the sidelist to find the region they are interested in and set that one as the active regions, to see listings in that area only.
