I love your AWPCP plugin. But I have a very assertive sales partner who immediately spotted a usability problem with the photo upload functionality. Unless I can fix it, he just won't participate.
It can be frustrating to less computer savvy people to upload photos in your current setup. The current functionality on AWPCP 5.2.1 is that some users have to make a mistake before they get notified that their image is too large or too small. On one test listing, first I got it too large, then I got it too small. I got it too large because I didn't know that 1 MB file size = 1024 x 1024 pixels. (I think I got that right.) How could most people know this?
Also, if their photo is raw, right out of their camera or phone, they many not know how to resize it to standards.
This has to cause significant abandonment of the Place Ad page. We lose customers. They need more instructions, or they get frustrated and walk away. My partner keeps referring to the Craigslist photo upload as the Gold Standard, and how they get it right, even with totally clueless users uploading their huge images. And I see Craigslist has a square photo display format and will fill in with white space when an image is taken in vertical or horizontal orientation.
Question 1: how can I add more text on the Place Ad page for photo size requirements so that it will show on the page where users upload photos? And maybe link to instructions on how to resize and crop photos in Windows Paint, because not everybody knows how to resize photos. Having to resize is just another frustrating roadblock for unsophisticated users.
Question 2: Has the image rotation issue for smartphone photos been fixed? A huge percentage of people use their phone nowadays to take their listing photos.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your post and for your kind words about AWPCP!
The plugin includes code to fix rotation of uploaded images automatically. Are you still seeing an issue with this? Please let me know about that.
For the file size issue, we resize images to match the settings entered by the owner of the classifieds site. The maximum allowed file size (or dimensions) is also configurable from the settings. Just go to Classifieds > Settings > Images/Attachments to set those file sizes.
The default settings cover a broad range of file sizes, and what you noted as a 1mb file in your comment above is not always that particular size. For example, an image can be 1800 X 160 and still be 1MB. There is a nifty calculator here if you are interested in messing around with width/height and how that affects image size: http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/lrm22/p.....ulator.htm
That said, I would recommend adjusting the maximum and minimum image file size if you feel like the default settings don't cover enough variety in image sizes. You can manipulate those settings under Classifieds > Settings > Images/Attachments here:
For these instructions to the end user, you can use a translation file to change the words/instructions for uploading images.
Any string or label in the application can be modified with a translation file to be whatever you want it to be. Although a translation file is traditionally used to change the language of a plugin, it also will change ANY string or label in the plugin (For example, you can change the word "Search" to "Find") We have full instructions on how to do that here: https://awpcp.com/quick-start-guide/#qs-translate
Please keep in mind that with each release, we add, edit or remove strings in the plugin, and as a result, those things are changed in the translation file. If you are using a translation file, you should update your translation files with EACH upgrade of the plugin.
Follow the instructions in this article for the steps to take to upgrade your translation file: http://businessdirectoryplugin.....tion-file/
I hope that helps.

Thank you very much for your help. This stuff is normally way above my head, but your instructions were perfect. I successfully made the translation, and my changes are now live. But I ran into a problem on how to break up the content into separate lines in Poedit.
Supposedly when you hit a line feed in your translation, Poedit places /n there, and executes the desired line feed. It does that for me (flagged in red font). But it doesn't work live. I then manually tried entering the line feeds like this:
But that just printed the /n on the live page.
It appears that you may have to add quotation marks to show like this:
But that only made the quotation marks AND the /n appear live.
How do I add line feeds in the translation?
Thanks in advance from a non-code guy.

For a non-code guy, you're doing great!
I couldn't get the backslash n to work either -- that must be a problem with Poedit. However, you can get new lines using <br/>
Apparently, HTML works here as well.
Here is the code I used:
And here is the result I got:
Please try that and let me know if you run into more issues.
