I have been trying to get my Facebook User Token but the link provided by AWPCP in the plugin does not work. I was able to find it in the FB developer tools section of https://developers.facebook.com/tools/explorer

When I click Get User Access token it prompts me to choose/tick these options:

User Data Permission

– email

Events, Groups & Pages

– manage_pages

– pages_messaging

– pages_messaging_phone_number

– pages_messaging_subscriptions

– pages_show_list

 

Any help to know which to tick off would be appreciated.

However, I should let you know that Facebook has recently changed the API and auto-posting doesn’t work like it used to. We are working on a solution to this, but it has been a bit of a challenge to find a working solution. Thanks for your patience while we get this sorted out!

We have made some changes to the way we integrate with Facebook and those are included in the latest version of AWPCP. If you haven’t upgraded to 3.9 yet, please do so at this time.

I have upgraded and followed your instructions to the letter. I am unable to obtain my token due to permissions.

I have requested permissions for publish_pages & manage_pages but…

The plugin is giving me an error of publish_to_groups also

Facebook does not allow publish_to_groups as automatic or without permission from the user.

How will the Facebook API work if I do not have this permission?

The other permissions are currently in Review.

Hi Dan,

Thank you for your post about this. 

We currently support two methods for posting new ads to Facebook: Facebook API and Zapier/IFTTT Webhooks.

Support for older accounts with the Facebook API will be removed in the future. Facebook significantly reduced access to their APIs across all apps on April 4, 2018. Now it takes longer and is more difficult to configure Facebook Apps that can post content to pages or groups. As a result, it is unlikely that this integration is going to work for new users. We introduced support for Zapier/IFTTT Webhooks as an alternative and expect customers to migrate to that integration method.

Regrettably, AWPCP is more of a coder requirement than a Plugin. I need to spend time on content, not managing a finicky system.

Also, Zapier and IFTTT are MONTHLY PAY services. You should not charge for a Premium Plugin Module if it DOES NOT WORK without the support of a third party that charges for their services.

Hi Dan,

Thank you for sharing your perspective on this, as I’m sure it’s frustrating.

The core AWPCP is a free plugin that is available to anyone to use, and we offered the Facebook integration for free in that plugin — there was never a cost to use that.

We want to make it clear that the change to our integration isn’t a decision we’re making on our own here, or one we get to make at all…it’s one Facebook is forcing upon us. Our integration with them has shifted and changed many times over the years because of platform specific changes (often times the changes were small, but not this one). This is one in a long line of them, and certainly the most severe. Like all of the others, we were caught off guard on this because they certainly don’t notify us about these changes in advance (it’s not like they don’t have our email, as Facebook app developers!) and release them without warning.

I completely understand and feel your frustration here as we feel it too.Facebook does what is best for Facebook, and screws the little guys like you and I. Their recent privacy scandals and other PR missteps obviously have them scrambling to make changes to appease the government and board. Please understand that we have zero control over any of this and have developed a solution that will work for the time being, albeit a paid solution (paid through the other companies, not ours).
