Not getting failed email send message after update to version 3.8.4 “There was a problem encountered during the attempt to send your message. Please try again and if the problem persists, please contact the system administrator”. I have smtp mail setup and has always worked. Have turned that off and tested but still fails. Site email is working fine. Link to debug info is here:

Please try again and if the problem persists, please contact the system administrator”. I have smtp mail setup and has always worked. Have turned that off and tested but still fails. Sorry that you ran into issues with this!

For email issues with the plugin, it’s usually best to verify some things about your server, because in our experience, email problems stem from the server configuration more than anything.

Here’s an article about email delivery that you should try, including a plugin to install to track the outgoing email to confirm that it’s being sent: http://docs.businessdirectoryp…..blems.html

Once you confirm that, it means that the email is either failing to be delivered by the server or something outside of the plugin. We use the standard mechanism for email sending through WP, but once it’s sent, it’s outside of our control.

Try that and report back on what you find.

It’s worth noting that I am a wordpress developer of 10+ years, however I’ve no experience with your plugin. Emails and email functionality on the site and server are working fine. I’m using WP Mail SMTP plugin to deliver mail via google smtp mail servers and the mail send functions are testing and working flawlessly with the exception of your plugin’s send message to seller function. For years we’ve had the use smtp setting in your plugin checking and populated and it’s worked flawlessly till the last update. I’ve tried turning smtp mail method off on your plugin as well and it still fails with the message ” “There was a problem encountered during the attempt to send your message. Please try again and if the problem persists, please contact the system administrator”. I have even rolled back to previous versions but still get email fails. Please advise. Thanks.

I’ve actually just discovered it is in fact within your plugin. When I set “default php mailer”  instead of using smtp via WP Mail SMTP plugin and trun smtp mail off in settings of your plugin the mailer function of your plugin works. So you’ve got some issues with how your plugin handles the email function when using smtp mail. I’m sure others will report as well and I’ll just listen out as I’m sure it will be resolved likely in another update. Thanks.

Thanks for letting me know. I’ll have the developer take a look at this. It would be best if we could check this on your site. To do that, we’ll need access to your site. Can we please get WP admin and FTP credentials to your site to look into this further?

– FTP servername/IP address

Hi Mark,

We didn’t hear from you on this, so I did have the developer take a look and here is what he is asking:

  1. Is this the plugin they are using https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/? There is at least other plugin with the exact same name (WP Mail SMTP) and other very similar (WP Email SMTP).
  2. Assuming I got the right plugin, are they sending emails through Google using the Gmail mailer or did they configure a Google account using SMTP?

I was able to send emails through my Google account using either of this combinations:

  • Gmail mailer and Enable external SMTP server setting ON.
  • Gmail mailer and Enable external SMTP server setting OFF.
  • Other SMTP mailer and Enable external SMTP server setting ON.
  • Other SMTP mailer and Enable external SMTP server setting OFF.
  • WP Email SMTP deactivated and Enable external SMTP server setting ON.

The Enable external SMTP server must be OFF if the customer is already using another plugin to route email messages through an SMTP server. Since the customer reported that having the setting OFF doesn’t help unless WP Mail SMTP is disabled as well, I believe an external factor or the configuration is causing the plugin to fail. If we get access, I can continue investigating.

Thanks so much for looking into this. We were able to get the mail function working only by turning off smtp option in your plugin and only using php mail function setting of the wp-mail-smtp plugin. Yes the plugin you linked is the one. We were using a paid google mail services account to send via smtp which works fine on all mail for the site except mail send via your plugin.

 

We’re just going to leave it working as is. Thanks!
