Hi,

A user on Android tablet is reporting an issue with the Payment Term (fees) form after clicking ‘Place Ad’.

When I click the link you provided, it opens up the advertising matrix showing the different listing options but then that closes and leaves the dropdown box and continue box but the cursor just doesn’t open it again. It’s just frozen – cannot open or access anything.

What he is saying I believe is that the Select Category and Payment Term form cannot be opened by clicking the dropdown. I’m unable to replicate this as I don’t own a Samsung tablet (it works fine on all my Android devices).

What I see (on all devices) after clicking ‘Place Ad’ is the Payment Term form appears briefly then disappears and reappears once a Category is selected from the dropdown. (I notice this is different from the Demo, where the Payment Term form is permanently displayed).

I tried removing my custom CSS and disabling various plugins but apparently this didn’t help. I wonder if you can offer any suggestions?

Hi AgentX,

Thanks for your post. I too have an Android phone and the site and all of the forms do work there. I tried a test at quirktools.com/screenfly for the Samsung Galaxy 7 inch tablet (they have several choices to choose from there) and again, it seemed to display okay.

Do you know what browser this person was using? I would recommend having them try again from a different device, or a different browser, as it sounds like this might be device-specific. If you can reproduce the issue on another machine, please let us know.

Please try that and let me know if you run into more issues.

Hi and thanks for your response.

I also have some Android devices on which it works fine.

I asked the User for O/S and browser versions but it is difficult to get this info from none-technical folk.

I am using a Samsung Galaxy tablet a couple of years old. I normally use Google Chrome but did also try the Puffin

browser. (I have to buy tickets for the football as the seat planner doesn’t open in Chrome but does in Puffin for me).

After you kindly loaded the advert and then the pictures I did go back in a couple of times using Chrome but the Advertise

(Place Ad) link just doesn’t allow the cursor to open it. The page is very slow to load and then it’s very difficult to open up a listing but eventually it does, but painfully slow as if the page is just frozen.

In the meantime another User has reported a similar issue. He is using Safari version iOS iPad Air.

Hi AgentX,

Thanks for that information. I have presented the issue to the developer, so I will let you know more when I hear back.

In the meantime, I would recommend making sure that you followed the steps he provided the last time a similar issue was found on your site. That conversation is here: https://awpcp.com/forum/support-questions/ad-listings-not-showing-windows-10/

Thanks for your patience.

Hi AgentX,

Thanks for your patience here.

I just heard back from the developer regarding the issue you reported, and here is what he said:

Could you please ask the customer if they know what category is being selected by those users that are having problems?

When I tested the Place Ad form on https://pennymachines.co.uk/market/advertise/, selecting the Wanted category showed no payment terms. The plugin offers no feedback to let the user know that no payment terms are available, so it looks like the selection just didn’t work. That behavior could explain the problems that the customer described, but we need confirmation.

The page is also showing two JavaScript errors. They didn’t cause any of the features to break on my iPhone, but it is possible that users on other devices may experience problems. However, I think the feedback problem with the Wanted category is more likely to explain what’s going on in this case.

In case the customer is interested about the JavaScript errors, the page includes an iframe that loads

. The HTML content on that page is trying to load two scripts that cannot be download:

<script src="search/include/ajax/prototype.js" type="text/javascript"></script
<script src="search/include/ajax/scriptaculous.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

When the browser tries to access either of those URLs, the server redirects the requests to

, which the browser downloads and then tries to parse as JavaScript. Since

returns HTML, the browser triggers the following error:

Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token &lt;

.

Please let me know.

Thank you for looking into this for me.

I have removed the two (currently unused) JavaScripts.

When I tested the Place Ad form on https://pennymachines.co.uk/market/advertise/, selecting the Wanted category showed no payment terms.

My two top-level categories are not supposed to have any payment terms. They cannot be posted to. Only the four subcategories have payment terms. I’m not sure why For Sale does show a fee list. As we agreed, it would be less confusing if top level categories could not be selected when they can’t be posted to.

The problem reported is:

When I click the link (Place Ad or Advertise), it opens up the Payment Terms showing the different listing options but then that closes and leaves the dropdown box and continue box but the cursor just doesn’t open it again. It’s just frozen – cannot open or access anything.

Just to add to the above I’ve change a couple of settings:

I’ve unchecked “Collapse Categories” (shouldn’t make any odds) and unchecked “Auto-expand the Classifieds Menu for mobile devices?” I’ll let you know if this is helps.

As expected I’m afraid, the changes mentioned in my last post made no difference.

The Samsung Galaxy tablet user’s latest report suggests that he is experiencing other issues with the plugin:

Sometimes the individual listings open, sometimes not. If they do, it’s like the page is frozen first but then it opens. If it does open, I can click on the seller’s name and the white box opens to send an offer etc. I cannot access the Advertise (Place Ad) section as it just doesn’t open.

I appreciate it is frustrating trying to diagnose these issues when you can’t replicate them.

Hi AgentX,

Thanks for your patience here while we have been working on this issue for you.

The developer offers these comments:

Unfortunately I don’t have much to continue debugging this issue. Not even the customer can reproduce the problem reported by their user, so it is really hard to figure out what to fix.

After reading several times that the pages (Advertise and individual pages) look frozen, I started to think the connection could be another factor making everything more difficult for this user. However, I was still able to see those pages properly after simulating a Slow 3G connection in Chrome. I remain unable to reproduce the problem.

Unfortunately, in order to proceed looking into this, we will need a reproducible case here. When you have that, please provide that step-by-step example.
