Hi

I’ve a strange issue which I assume is specific to my setup, as nobody else is reporting it.

My adverts are displayed via a page using etc.

They display fine on all systems and browsers except  specifically Internet Explorer and Fiirefox under a Windows 10 OS.

They do however show up on Windows 10 Edge.

I reverted to default theme (TwentyTwelve), tried other themes, deactivated plugins, all to no avail.

I just wondered if anyone could suggest a way to pinpoint the problem.

Above should read: ‘My adverts are displayed via a page using shortcode’.

Hi AgentX,

Thanks for your question. Let me do some research on this and I’ll get back with you soon.

Thank you!

I should perhaps clarify that the adverts themselves display fine (if you know their URLs and visit them) but the shortcode created listings don’t.

Hi AgentX,

I’m asking the developer on this. Can you please tell me the specific shortcode you are using, and the site URL? A link to one of the listings that is working correctly might also be helpful. Please let me know.

Hi

The sortcode without brackets (which prevent it displaying in this forum) is AWPCPSHOWCAT ID=6 etc.

URL: https://pennymachines.co.uk/market/sales/

A listing: https://pennymachines.co.uk/market/13-2/14-2/58/bell-fruit-cascade-wanted/machines/

Hi AgentX,

Thanks for that information. I am running Windows 10 and using Firefox, I can view a page that shows all of your categories and looks like this:

48WRYPr.jpgImage Enlarger

And continues to show ads in other categories down the page, such as Machines Wanted, Spares Wanted, etc. There is only one category that doesn’t appear to have any ads, which is Spares for Sale.

Please let me know what you are expecting to see and what you are not seeing. This could be a cache issue.

We recommend clearing the server cache, if you have one (which is found either in your hosting settings or on your plugin settings for things like WP Super Cache and W3TC if you have them installed), as well as your client browser cache.

The best way to get uncached data on your browser is to use a Private browsing window or Incognito mode (depending on your browser). That ensures you’re seeing the latest, correct data.

Please let me know.

Thank you for looking into this.

What you see is what I see, but unfortunately not what everyone sees.

What’s really odd is that evidently the problem only affects some computers using Windows 10/Firefox or Internet Explorer.

I’m testing on Windows 7 (no problems) and I tried to troubleshoot by viewing on Virtualbox under Windows 10/Firefox & IE. It displayed fine. But I view on another Windows 10 machine and it doesn’t display on Firefox or IE (but does on Edge).

This is consistent with what some of my visitors are describing. They see no adverts on the listing page – not even the box around the adverts, just the text Machines For Sale etc. Those visitors are on Windows 10 Firefox & IE.

Hi AgentX,

I heard back from the developer on this, and he reports:

I used https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/screenshots/ to see screenshots of https://pennymachines.co.uk/market/sales/ on different browsers.

This is the one generated on Firefox 45 running on Windows 10:

l46Ia3c.jpgImage Enlarger

That picture on the screenshot is part of one of the listings shown on that page: https://pennymachines.co.uk/market/13-2/14-2/62/1934-jennings-sportsman-payout-pinball/machines/. I’m assuming that’s proof that the listings show up on Firefox 45 on Windows 10.

Could you please ask the customer to provide screenshots of what the page looks like when the listings do not show up?

Also:

  1. What exact versions of Firefox and Internet Explorer are being used?
  2. How many AWPCP shortcodes are being used on that page?

I think there are three and that shouldn’t be an issue; I’m just trying to get all possible information to see if something can explain the problem.

Please let me know.

Thanks again.

Here’s a screenshot of the blank listing page on Firefox 61.0 64 bit (Win 10 64 bit)

The member who said he had a problem on Win 10 IE is actually using Edge apparently. I’m waiting to hear which version.

The page has 4 shortcodes: AWPCPSHOWCAT ID=1, AWPCPSHOWCAT ID=2 etc.

I can’t see my attachment – so I try again. It’s almost identical to the image you posted except the adverts in their boxes are missing.

Hi AgentX,

I use imgur.com in include images in posts here, as the forum plugin doesn’t allow much flexibility with adding images to posts. Try that or any other photo sharing site to include the images here.

Hi AgentX,

Thanks for that. Please let me know when you know the version numbers as well. I have passed this info along to the developer and will let you know when I hear more.

OK, so the problem is apparent on Firefox 61.0 64 bit and Microsoft Edge 42.17134.1.0 on Windows 10.
