I use WP 5.4 and AWPCP 126.96.36.199.
I did not find a way to modify the existing ad listing order available in Settings -> Display -> Layout and Presentation.
How can I modify the ad listing order so it can list the ads in a category by ad title ascending, and then by ad title ascending inside the subcategories? (basically group by category + subcategory)
Example: For the main category: Barns, Farms, Trainers & Clubs Directory, I created some subcategories with ads.
Now it shows all the ads in this category order by ad title, ASC.
I need it to show first the ads in the first subcategory (Alabama) ordered by title, ASC, then ads in California ordered by title, ASC, then ads in Colorado, ordered by title, ASC etc. just like it shows in this pdf: https://sidelinesmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/2020-04-Directories.pdf
Do I need any of the premium modules to do this? Or any kind of custom code to add? Any suggestion is welcome!
Thank you! -- Lucian Mihailescu
P.S. I maintain the Romanian translation for AWPCP since 2018 or so, just updated the latest version today. Now I setup AWPCP for an English language website. It works great for both!

Thank you for your post.
Here is the setting you need to change under Classified Admin > Settings > Display tab > Layout and Presentation sub-tab:
If you aren't seeing any changes in your site, you may be seeing old data on your browser.
We recommend clearing the server cache, if you have one (which is found either in your hosting settings or on your plugin settings for things like WP Super Cache and W3TC if you have them installed), as well as your client browser cache.
The best way to get uncached data on your browser is to use a Private browsing window or Incognito mode (depending on your browser). That ensures you're seeing the latest, correct data.
Please try that and let me know if you run into more issues.

Thank you for your quick reply!
Yes, I have the Order Ad listing by Title ASC in place and it's working fine.
What I want to achieve is this:
- Subcategory 1 has these ad titles White, Blue, Indigo
- Subcategory 2 has Black, Green
- Subcategory 3 has Yellow, Brown, Red
If I click on Main Category, I get the list ordered by title asc:
Black, Blue, Brown, Green, Indigo, Red, White, Yellow
What I need it to be:
(Subcateg1) Blue, Indigo, White (Subcateg2) Black, Green (Subcateg3) Brown, Red, Yellow
Something like: group by Main category, then group by subcategory order by title ASC
How can I do that? Do you have a paid module that does this? Or do I need a custom code?
Like a function to go through each subcategory of the main category and print ads by title?
Thanks! -- Lucian

Thanks for getting back to me on this.
Unfortunately, this is something that will require advanced development, and with our hefty feature list and our ongoing support work, we lack the bandwidth to do that kind of customization for sites. There are a few great resources to help you out here.
1) Tilden Tasks: https://tildentasks.com/ They will also do longer WordPress tasks, but they break it down to 1 task per day.
2) Codeable, which has WordPress expert developers available for short-term projects: https://codeable.io/
3) The last option would be hiring a developer on Upwork (formerly known as oDesk) to help out if you think this is beyond your current skill set. http://upwork.com There's a lot of decent folks on there as well.
Hacking the plugin comes with it's own risks and complications--like the fact that any changes you make can break other aspects of the plugin and any issues you have need to be tested against an unmodified plugin for support. If you can reproduce on the unmodified plugin, we can fix it. But any updates or changes have to be maintained by you in your custom version. It's a pretty big hassle.
Here's an article to help you if that's the path you decide to take:
