I get this question quite a bit:

Hi, Contemplating embarking with your Classified Plugin, thanks.
DO you recommend any particular Wordpress templates and can it be used
OK with other plug-ins on different pages, such as Business Directory
and the Events Calendar

Would appreciate your comments.

The answer is that AWPCP is generally very compatible with most themes and plugins. There always exists the potential for conflict if the theme is doing something very fancy or particular with CSS. If you suspect a theme conflict, I always suggest the following test: http://awpcp.com/forum/faq/how.....conflicts/

EDIT: There is now a WordPress plugin to CHECK how good your theme really is (how it adheres to WP standards). You can find it here: http://wordpress.org/extend/pl.....eme-check/

Highly rated, written by a WP contributor and used by the WP team for theme checking, you can trust that any theme that passes that checker will probably work very well with AWPCP.

UPDATE Oct 1, 2014:

Here is a recommended list of theme marketplaces and sites that you should be using to get a reputable, well-written, supported, WP 4.x compliant theme: http://wpapplied.com/best-plac…..emes-2014/ You get what you pay for in our experience.

Free themes are rarely free in terms of the time you spend on making them work or trying to fix bugs and get support. In our experience, spending $125 on a good theme is better than wasting a week or more on a bad one. :)

In particular, we do like WooThemes for their overall support and quality: http://woothemes.com

Others in the article above in the higher ranks are also great as well (StudioPress, etc)

KNOWN PLUGIN CONFLICTS:

This was reported yesterday (8/23/10):

All in One Adsense and YPN (causes AWPCP to stop working)

UPDATE 12/10/12: If you add the comment:

<!--adsensestart-->

immediately after the AWPCP shortcode, then you can run this plugin without conflict!

No other plugin conflicts known at this time.

New known plugin conflict:

phpBB Single Sign On (SSO): http://wordpress.org/extend/pl.....e-sign-on/

Causes AWPCP to throw an error:

AWPCP PHP Error [256] NO_MODEFatal error called by line 191 in file /data/users/web/www.scooter-tuning.sk/forum/includes/mcp/mcp_main.php, error in /data/users/web/www.scooter-tuning.sk/wp-content/plugins/another-wordpress-classifieds-plugin/functions_awpcp.php at line 36, PHP 5.3.3 (Linux)Aborting...

Plugin conflict: PHPurchase shopping cart also calls session_start, creating a conflict with AWPCP's session_start.

Solution: Remove the session_start from awpcp.php and things appear to work.

EDIT: As of 1.8.0, this problem is fixed and the two should work fine together.

New conflict: Events Manager Extended 3.2.7

It causes a database error when used with AWPCP because of shortcode rendering. You'll see the error on AWPCP pages. It appears that the plugin wants to try and use/render AWPCP's shortcodes.

New conflict: Easy AdSense 2.99

Causes AWPCP to stop displaying the Classifieds pages altogether. I suspect it's because the plugin is not correctly returning the blog page content after being called in sequence. I would suggest avoiding this if you want to use AdSense and find other plugins instead.

New conflict: "Theme My Login"

When you fill in the place ad form, it just returns to the same place ad page after you press submit. Also seems to cause general form problems (like with your contact form).

NOTE: Conflict no longer exists with AWPCP 3.0.1 and higher.

New conflict: Captcha & Contact Form Plugin by BestWebSoft.

Turning these on will cause the AWPCP "Classifieds" menu in the admin panel to disappear. An alternative contact form plugin (Fast and Secure Contact Form) works without conflict.

Activating these plugins with AWPCP causes the admin screen and the site to go blank.
