Getting SEO friendly URLs correct is frustrating, but if you follow some easy steps below, you'll reduce your frustration and get it right the first time!
First, go to Settings->SEO Settings in AWPCP admin. Check the box "Use Search Engine Friendly URLs".
Now, you need to make sure you have two things set correctly:
1) You must be using a non-default permalink structure. I suggest /%category%/%postname%/ but anything will do as long as it's not default.
2) (Versions 18.104.22.168 and EARLIER) You must set the numbers correctly in SEO friendly URLs. Here's an example for Show Ad:
[b:3mwzlwye]This part applies only for versions before 1.8.9 (If you have 1.8.9 or later, these options are no longer required)[/b:3mwzlwye]
Suppose you have a site that has this URL for your ads, after you turn on SEO friendly URLs. How do you know what the "right setting" is for "Show ads"?
Start at the beginning of the URL. Drop the http:// AND the sitename (the domain). In this case, we drop https://awpcp.com. That leaves us:
Starting from 0, count each word BETWEEN slashes, so for my example, that's:
Stop after you get to the word that is only a number. In my case, that's 753. This is the Ad's ID in the database. That's what you want to "get to" in Show Ad.
Whatever the number is next to your Ad ID, that's the number to use in Show Ads for SEO Friendly URLs. Make the change, save the settings and it should work.
View categories is done in a similar way, just look at the url and break it up after dropping the front part:
And after dropping:
So that means our "View categories" SEO setting is 1.
You can repeat this for all pages in the system and get your settings right with much less frustration.
